Literacy programme
Teaching reading and writing to children and adults who were never given the chance to learn.
Literacy is the difference between reading a medicine label and guessing at it, between signing a contract and marking it with a thumbprint. The club’s literacy programme brought structured teaching to children and adults who had fallen outside the school system.
Approach
Small classes, trained volunteer teachers, and materials suited to adult learners as well as children. Progress was measured, not assumed.
